Oil Paintings & Fiber Art – a joint exhibition by Mary & Stephen Murphy
Mary’s art explores the human form in line and form through a variety of media… her interest lies in the experiences that mold our bodies and indeed alter them. The resulting images of people and the play of light over them, make for powerful viewing. She makes ample use of many mediums and techniques, from oils, charcoal, pastels to fibers, needles and thread. This technique of replacing pen and paper with needle and thread, as a method of drawing, hearkens back to her classical art and fashion design training. It’s use illustrates the importance of mark making in her expression. The materials used evolves naturally and organically over time thus becoming a 3D reflection or diary of her life.
Murphy has exhibited widely and featured in press and magazine publications both at home and abroad.
Murphy and her husband, Stephen, also an Artist, live in the scenic south of Ireland with their three children and various pets.
Stephen Murphy has an innate talent for rendering all manner of motorbikes, with an insane amount of detail. This ability has been honed over many years, the hard way, working on various classic bikes until their every part becomes as familiar as the back of his hand. His training as a Master Technician illustrates his eye for detail and precision. But it’s through Stephen’s interest in light reflections on chrome and metal, however, that his masterful skill and brilliant use of colour becomes apparent.
Together they run a busy Studio in Carrigaline, Co. Cork, Eire. This Studio is the centre of a thriving Art school, Art Suppliers, Arty Party Venue and Framers.
