Place: St. Peter's Cork
We have a super line-up of events for St. Patrick’s Weekend, from history talks to kids storytelling as well as our current heritage and art exhibitions for you to enjoy!
Here’s the schedule of events:
1pm: An Introduction to Genealogy with David Ryan
Join local genealogist David Ryan for an introduction into genealogy. Learn how to get started researching your past and putting together your family history. Come along for this free public talk and take in our beautiful historic venue in the medieval heart of Cork City. David is an experienced genealogist and is always available for private bookings, more info at firstname.lastname@example.org.
11am: Kids’ Storytelling Hour for under 10’s
Join us for some children’s storytelling before the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the city! Our storyteller will kick off your St. Patrick’s Day in true Irish spirit with all stories and books having an Irish touch – we’ll have tales from Irish authors and books based in Ireland! If you have your own favourite book, feel free to bring it along! (All are welcome but please note the stories will be best suited for under 10’s).
12pm: ‘The Geraldine’, A Maritime Heritage Talk by Seán T. Rickard
The centenary of the sinking of the Geraldine in World War I marks a unique, if largely unknown place in Cork’s maritime history. We are delighted to welcome Seán T. Rickard, a maritime historian, journalist and U.S. Navy veteran to speak at St. Peter’s Cork on this fascinating topic. Hear Seán recount the story of the Geraldine, by examining personal histories, charting the boat’s history from her construction through the golden age of sail and beyond. Not to be missed!
Throughout the weekend call in to view our new heritage exhibition ‘Cork Harbour Heritage Exhibition’ to discover the rich maritime past of Passage West and the link between the U.S. Navy and Cork Harbour in WWI.
Indulge in some beautiful artwork over the weekend, with Brian Dwyer’s ‘Dear New York’, a gorgeous collection of photography!
See you for a celebration of local heritage, art and Irishness this St. Patrick’s Weekend!
All events and activities are free!
